The film takes place during a day of a typical hispanic young man. The story is losely based on events and stories of Kris' own life and his close friends.

The story opens up to a beautiful day in the Dominican Republic where our main character spent most of his childhood. He lives in the suburb of Los Minas (The Mines) just outside the capitol of Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. He lives with his aunt; Mercedes (his mother sister). Enjoys the carefree living is offered to him by his guardians, pretty much those what he wills, and is shelter by the stories told to him by his family members. He has a very close relationship with his bestfriend Julio, whom he considers his brother. They grew up together in the same neiborhood and attended the same schools. Since Sam came to live with his aunt, Sam always dreams of going back to New York City to live with his mother, while Julio has no desire of leaving S.D. and feels like his country offers him everything he needs. Later on Sam receives news from his mother in New York, that he was returning back home to (NY) live with her, Sam is stactic while everyone else that knows him feel very sad, almost knowing that once he left he was never coming back, most never do - not even to visit. That was back in the Summer of 1992.

Present Day - New York

On his return to New York he reliaze that it's not what is cracked up to be. He realizes that all the things he was told as a kid where lies. Nothing but lies, life is not as easy as the story said they would. Upon graduation from college he doesn't see that "American Dream" he was told about. Life in the city city was hard and tough, but what hurt him the most was to see his mother suffer. She wasn't able to work anymore due to a factory accident she had 5 years ago, now it's up to him to provide. He is tempted by the "short cuts" of life but never gives in. He tries and tries to do the right thing. Finally he gets a break, a promising offer from an accouting firm that is looking for a young entry level accountant. This is where the story takes a turn, and his life changes forever. Written and directed by Kristian Omar Areché.
